E-WASTE DAY Bologna

The main purpose of the international e-waste day is to promote, on a global scale, information about electronic waste and on its correct disposal.

On this day (October 14, 2019), Legambiente Emilia-Romagna organized an awareness-raising event, with particular focus on the digital lifestyle that characterizes the new millennium.
The objective was to ponder on individual and collective good practices for the sustainable use of electronic equipment, with a view to the circular economy.
Many experts contributed to the event by presenting their projects and with a series of interventions on these hot topics. Roberto A. Lantadilla (Legambiente) and Marco La Guardia (Rusko Association) opened the event with a presentation entitled "The impact of e-waste between planned obsolescence and the right to reparability". After that, Leonardo Rubbini from EXE explained how the digital world can have a significant impact on the environment and spoke about the challenges for zero-emission computing.

During two workshops organized for the event, solutions to promote the re-use of electronic equipment were also discussed and put into practice. The association R.U.S.K.O. set up the Repair Cafè workshop, where participants shared tools and knowledge on repairing disused objects. In the second Linux Installation Party workshop, OfPCina showed how the open-source software Linux can bring old computers back to life. In this regard, Cristina Carnevali revealed with a presentation how this open-source software could become a good ecological practice.

For us partners of the InnoWEEE project, the event seemed like an excellent opportunity and an innovative solution to increase the collection rates for small electrical and electronic waste. In order to fulfill the key objective of the project, for the entire duration of the event, a collection bin was set up for the collection of small-medium sized electronic devices. Giulia Degli Esposti (Dedagroup) and Elisabetta Farella (FBK) presented the main concepts of the InnoWEEE project and shared the ongoing experience in the Rovereto schools.
